1871

The First Nine Acres

of Grand Forks was claimed by Capt. Griggs that spring to become the original townsite, and what is now Downtown Grand Forks.

1881

Grand Forks is Incorporated

More than a decade after Griggs made Grand Forks home, it was incorporated as a city, with its first Mayor being W.H. Brown.

1998

The Yacht Club Goes Digital

and creates its first website for member newsletters and social events.

2018

Grand Forks Yacht Club

is officially reincorporated.

1870

Beached in Grand Forks, ND,

Captain Alexander Griggs and his crew ran aground in what would become Grand Forks, North Dakota and settled there that winter.

The steamboat Selkirk, then owned by the Hills-Griggs Company, on the Red River, 1871.

1879

Capt. Griggs builds Pontoon Toll Bridge

to connect Grand Forks and East Grand Forks where the Sorlie Bridge currently stands.

1997

The Greenway Reclamation Act

recaptures the banks of the Red River after catastrophic flooding affected the area.

1999

The GFYC Disappears

with the looming threat of Y2K.
